The post-Brexit Sunday Times ran an article by Rohan Silva, a co-founder of co-working space Second Home. My paraphrase of his article is: “We’re out, I didn’t want it, but now it’s happened here’s some great stuff we can do.

As a Remain voter, I too was shocked by the exit result.

Rapid change frightens all big organisations - including governments. Especially when it affects the foundations of their interests. When this happens, large corporations look to startups to provide answers that sound right and new products that work.

I’ve lost count of the people who say to me “I wish I could do startup.” Most are fibbing. Some of those people work at big tech companies like Google and Cisco, and they’re as risk-averse as anyone in banking or insurance. So like many founders, I often think: “Sure you can. But you don’t.

Well, with Brexit I was the one in that position. I was as risk-averse as anyone in banking or insurance. I didn’t want Brexit to happen - I thought it was a stupid idea.

But my choice has been rejected and the status quo has changed.

It looks to me like the UK just went startup.

And I discover that I’m neither frightened nor angry. Just intrigued to see where we will take this thing, now the decision is made.
