Jacoby Thwaites

Let’s get to know the team behind the SPARKL technology!

This week, it’s Jacoby Thwaites, the founder and CEO of SPARKL. In 2006, Jacoby co-founded mashup pioneer Teqlo Inc in California. He then moved back to the UK to manage Adsense Engineering at Google UK before founding SPARKL in 2012. Hobbies including wearing polo shirts and building Lego with his 8-year-old son.

In a nutshell, what do you do?

I spend much of my time working through the SPARKL Sequencing Engine development roadmap - that’s writing code, testing, testing and more testing! I also meet with customers and evangelise the technology at events and conferences.

What's your favourite part about your role?

My favourite thing is coding, primarily in Erlang - it’s a great language and runtime for high-performance platforms like SPARKL. It’s enormous fun to work with such an excellent team, too. We all do different things very well, which makes for a very functional group of people in my view.

Why did you found SPARKL?

For ages I’ve wanted to solve the universal problem we call “the black box swamp” - the unrecognised root cause of major problems through the industry, such as security breaches, privacy concerns and so much more.

What makes you excited about the SPARKL Sequencing Engine?

That’s too easy - it provides a solution to the black box swamp! Also, the technology is getting better and better thanks to a really great team, and I love seeing that.
